Founded in Quebec in 2017, Ensemble Renouveau brings together five friends around the same passion, that of renewing and reclaiming the greatest pages of the classical repertoire. This approach evolves around Simon Desbiens’ arrangements and compositions, which allows each member of the group to bring to the ensemble their own hidden passion or specification. Although, they might all come from a classical training, they like to bring to the table movie soundtracks, French music, pop music, folk music, as well as opera and chamber music. Ensemble Renouveau thus presents to every concert a varied program which is always interpreted in the lyrical style, in a warm atmosphere aiming to make classical music accessible.
The quintet is made up of sopranos Carole-Anne Roussel and Evelyne Larochelle, violinist Jessy Dubé, pianist Bruce Gaulin and cellist Simon Desbiens, the latter being composer and arranger for the group. Most of the members have taken part of programs and acquired higher education in Europe. All of them have acquired experience on the field, performing in their own musical career around Canada, USA, South America, Middle East and Europe.

Les Contemplations is an original work by Simon Desbiens inspired by Victor Hugo’s celebrated poetry collection of the same name. Performed by two sopranos, violin, cello, and piano, this musical journey explores three central themes of Hugo’s work: the wonder of nature, grief, and renewal.
