The guitarist

"Patrick Kearney is a revelation!"
(F.Tousignant, Le Devoir) - Canada

Composer and guitarist Patrick Kearney certainly has more than one string to his... guitar! In addition to being the artistic director of the Montreal International Classical Guitar Festival, the seasoned guitarist has released four albums, won numerous competitions, and edited several works.

As far as he can remember, the guitar was always part of his life. He began studying the instrument at the age of 8 and later enrolled in the École Normale de Musique de Paris, where he received instruction from renowned masters Rafael Andia and Alberto Ponce.

Kearney easily wins over audiences with his dazzling technical virtuosity and intense musicality. “He proved he was an expert at captivating the audience,” wrote journalist M. Lemke in the German newspaper Zevener Guitarrenwoche. Not surprisingly, he has distinguished himself in a myriad of international competitions, including the VIII International Portland Classical Guitar Competition and the XVI Guitar Foundation of America International Solo Guitar Competition. Moreover, he has been invited as a guest soloist by the chamber ensemble I Musici de Montréal, the Orchestre Philharmonique de L’Isle, and the Appassionata Ensemble.

Besides revisiting works by famous modern composers such as Andrew Zohn or Atanas Ourkouzounov, Patrick Kearney has made a name for himself by performing his own compositions. Over the course of his prolific career, he has given concerts in France, Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, and Canada.
